What are you thankful for?

I hope everyone had a wonderful break!

I had too much pie and not enough sleep! But whether you celebrate Thanksgiving ( a holiday given an official date by Abraham Lincoln. Tell me this and I’ll give you 5 points of extra credit!), it is always good to stop and reflect on the people in our lives. When was the last time you told the people in your life just how much you care about them? When was the last time you did something nice for someone else? It’s easy to forget to tell people just how much we love and care about them because we are all so busy. I urge all of us to take some time this week and tell those around us just how much we care.

But it is also good to stop and think about what are some of the things you are thankful for. As bad as things can seem sometimes, we are all very lucky to be living in the United States of America. It’s easy to focus on the things we don’t have but I ask you, are these things we really need? Don’t get me wrong, I’m equally as guilty about this. So often I complain that I need a new bed or new clothes but really, I’m pretty lucky to even have a bed and the clothes I wear. Too many people in this world go without basic necessities and here I am complaining about not having the newest video game out.  So it’s good to stop and just be thankful for all that we have.

Remember, be the change you want to see in the world. If you want a better world, it starts with you! 🙂

Change

“Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them; that only creates  sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.”

In the 30 years that I’ve been alive, I’ve had to endure lots of change.  Some would say that I’m kind of a pro at it now. However, that doesn’t mean that I enjoy change  but I’ve learned to be flexible and just “roll with the punches”.

Yes, last week was a hard week for everyone.  This week, however, is a new week. It’s our fresh start.  The good thing about last week is that we never have to experience that week again. There will never be another 11/08/12 again. It’s over.

What lies ahead depends on us. It is up to us, both students and teachers to decide if we are going to have another bad week or a good week. I don’t know about you guys but I’m ready to have a good week.

Yes, change is hard but it can also help us to grow. I know that I’ve personally and professional been forced to grow and become a stronger person and teacher. Yes, it was painful and many tears were shed but I didn’t give up.  I didn’t give in to the anger that was inside of me nor should you.

I sincerely hope that the acts of rebellion that took place last week will not happen again.  Despite what some of you may feel, this school is a gift. I believe that with my whole heart and I will do anything in my power to see it and you succeed. That is my promise to you.

But I need your help. I need your patience and understanding while I venture into this unknown territory. I want to give you wonderful students the best education I possible can but I’m essentially starting from scratch. This is a learning experience for all of us and we need to help each other out.

I won’t do everything that Ms. Kasperian did but it is unrealistic to think I would/could. I’m not her and I have my own style of teaching.  Perhaps you will come to like my style for language arts, perhaps you won’t. I simply ask that you give me a chance.

If we stick together, we can get through this. We can’t fight change.  We must simply adapt and move on.

“Things change. And friends leave. Life doesn’t stop for anybody.”
